Arbourthorne Ward
If you want to know whether you live in Arbourthorne ward or not click here and enter your postcode. Arbourthorne ward is made up of a number of communities*:

  • Arbourthorne Estate
  • Norfolk Park
  • Gleadless
  • Parts of Park
  • Parts of Castle
  • Heeley
  • Intake

* As with lots of places, there’s dispute over where different communities start and finish – so I’ve taken the Council’s definition of the parts that make up the ward to avoid awkwardness.

You can find a map of Arbourthorne ward here.

Our Community
Arbourthorne ward is a unique community. Massive investment over the last ten years has seen it transformed: We have two brand new primary schools and a new Academy, one new medical centre being built and another planned (see the latest Health Inequalities Report here). Norfolk Park has been transformed over the last decade and is one of Sheffield’s largest and most successful regeneration projects. The Arbourthorne estate has benefitted enormously from Decent Homes scheme.

Being a Councillor
I was elected on 7th May 2010. I received 3247 votes, which represented 47% of all the votes that were cast. I work with fellow Labour councillors John Robson and Julie Dore, who also represent Arbourthorne.

Being a Councillor is a unique role. It is a really interesting mix of grass roots, hands-on community work with individuals and high-level strategic plans and budgets. In an ideal world, the two roles add to each other. At the moment, I usually spend about 20-30 hours a week on Council business.

This website and blog is a way for me to speak with the Arbourthorne community and explain what I’m doing to make Arbourthorne a better place.

I try to remind myself everyday how privileged I am to be able to serve the people of Arbourthorne.

A New Politics

As a local ward Councillor and community activist giving people a voice is one of my top priorities. I want everyone to feel they have a stake in our society - politics is central to that.
